FTTU Sign
Installing the Original Forbes Trail Sign on Loyalhanna Creek in Ligonier

The Forbes Trail Chapter of Trout Unlimited was founded in 1973. The first meeting was held at Sleepy Hollow in May of that year. Concerned anglers, seeing a need after Hurricane Agnes and Route 30 construction had a devastating effect on Loyalhanna Creek, formed the chapter to improve fish habitat and fishing on the popular stream.

Thanks to FTTU, 50 years later, the Loyalhanna is unrecognizable from that time. Riffles, runs and pools with a healthy riparian canopy has replaced the shallow wide open stream channel of 1973, and is enjoyed by dozens of anglers.

Over the years, the chapter has also completed projects on Mill Creek and in the Linn Run Watershed and has educated hundreds of area youth on fly fishing, fly tying and Coldwater conservation.

Come, help us celebrate 50 years of Coldwater Conservation in Westmoreland County on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Ferrante’s Lakeview.
